Hiring
- While there is no standard timeline, the staff hiring process typically takes approximately six weeks from start to finish, while the student hiring process typically takes approximately four weeks. We strive to complete the process as efficiently as possible; however, individual circumstances may either delay or expedite the timeline. Visa-related hires, for example, may require additional time.
- To initiate the recruitment process, please contact [email protected] for the hiring form. Once the request is submitted, funding will be verified and the required director, dean, and provost approvals, when applicable, will be obtained before the recruitment process can move forward.
- Please note and keep in mind that any new hire may not start working until they are officially hired in workday. Background checks or other delays, not acknowledging actions as they are moved along in the hiring process, will result in delays and start date adjustment.
- Background checks are required for ALL employees. Fingerprinting is also required for security sensitive positions that require supervision of minors, handle any financial, Pcard, or HR operations.
Out-of-State Employee Reporting
- Any ASU employee who works outside the State of Arizona is required to obtain prior approval by the school Director and the Dean (when required). International employee remote work cannot be approved at this time.
- This is critical to ensure we are fully compliant with all reporting, taxation and employment regulations of the employee’s state.
- Reporting is required annually. The Business team will work with SGSUP staff and faculty to process a renewal and/ or as needed during the year should any change arise. If you need assistance on how to update your contact information, please contact SGSUP.
Onboarding and Off-boarding
- All new employees will receive an on-boarding email from the SGSUP HR staff, approximately 2-weeks prior to their start-date (sooner if applicable) to include important information regarding their hire, as well as an employee on-boarding checklist for reference.
- Supervisors are responsible for providing all new employees with a first-week agenda. The agenda should include meetings with key contacts, colleagues, business staff, and advising personnel, as appropriate. Depending on hire, supervisors should ensure that new employees attend any required orientation sessions.
- All faculty, staff, and student employees are required to provide written notice of resignation that clearly states their intended last working day. Before a termination, retirement, or resignation is processed please contact [email protected] as soon as possible to discuss your resignation or upcoming departure.

- ASU offers a variety of paid time off and leave benefits to eligible employees. These benefits may include vacation, health leave (sick time), university holidays, jury duty, bereavement leave, parental leave, and other approved types of leave, depending on your position and eligibility.
- Employees should review the applicable university policies for eligibility requirements, accruals, allowable uses, and procedures for requesting time off. When planning an extended absence or if you are unsure which leave option applies, please contact SGSUP HR for assistance.
- For complete information, visit ASU’s leave and holiday policies.
Leaves (FLMA, Medical and Personal leave)
- The university offers several leave options for employees who need to take time away from work due to personal or family illness, medical needs, or other qualifying life events.
- If you anticipate needing an extended absence of more than three consecutive workdays, please begin the leave of absence process by contacting SGSUP HR. We can help you determine which leave option may apply to your situation, such as FMLA, Parental Leave, or ASU Leave, and will work with you and ASU’s central benefits team to coordinate the formal leave process.
- Please note that employees cannot request a leave of absence more than two months in advance.
Workplace Accommodations
- ASU provides reasonable workplace accommodations for qualified employees and applicants with disabilities, as well as individuals with limitations related to pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions. Accommodations are determined through an interactive process and may include flexible or modified work schedules, remote or hybrid work arrangements, assistive technology, workplace modifications, or medical leave, depending on the individual’s circumstances.
- If you believe you may need a workplace accommodation, please review ASU’s Workplace Accommodations information and submit an accommodation request to begin the process.

Benefits
- ASU offers a comprehensive benefits package at competitive rates to enhance the total compensation of its faculty and staff. Coverage begins for eligible employees the first day of the pay period after your hire or eligibility date or after you complete enrollment — whichever is later.
- Employees may enroll in these benefits within 30 calendar days of hire, qualified life events or during the annual open enrollment period. Benefits enrollment is handled through Workday. For new employees, the enrollment process is included as part of their onboarding.
- If you have questions about your benefits, including health insurance, life insurance, disability, or retirement, please visit ASU’s benefit page or refer to the Benefit Plan Contacts for assistance.
