Don Thorstenson serves as the Information Management Lead and Drainage Flood Control Lead for Amec Foster Wheeler's Phoenix office.  He has been involved with Information Management projects in connection with private and government agencies for 22 years.  These projects have covered business sectors including environmental compliance, public safety, municipal GIS development, geologic assessment, socioeconomic planning, prison industry, counter terrorism, and higher education.  His focus is on utilizing technology to enhance and advance client's asset management systems.

Don has worked on state and local projects including city-wide ADA compliance analysis, state-wide sign inventories for ADOT, interactive well tracking system for the City of Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, storm drain system inspection and mapping at Goodyear Airport and Deer Valley Airport, a county-wide employer database for Maricopa County, enterprise geodatabase development for the Arizona Counter Terrorism Information Center, and various asset management systems associated with local Arizona projects.  He also serves on higher education technical advisory boards within Arizona, and is a Faculty Associate at Arizona State University where he teaches Master's level GIS coursework.

Don teaches as a Faculty Associate in ASU's MASGIS program.  His focus is on GIS in the private sector, with an emphasis on data management and project delivery.  He teaches the final course in a three-course series that walks students through the complete life cycle of a GIS consulting project.  The students learn how to respond to a public RFP, conduct needs assessments, locate data sources, organize and manage project data, finalize cartographic and spatial data analyses, and ultimately present their findings.
