Arizona Geographic Alliance to host 2016 STEMSS Institute

With a generous grant from Arizona Public Service Foundation, the Arizona Geographic Alliance (AzGA) will host a summer institute for kindergarten to 12th grade teachers, which will introduce content and pedagogy related to STEMSS -- Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Social Studies.

With a focus on introducing innovative technologies and techniques for teaching STEMSS, the 10 –day institute will include field trips to intriguing commercial and educational facilities, access to exemplary Arizona standards-based lessons that teach STEMSS, learning to ‘think like a geographer,' and networking with other educators.

Participants who complete all requirements will receive recertification hours, room and most meals, teaching resources, and stipends for travel and other expenses, and financial support to present at state conferences.

"This institute allowed me to better understand how to fully incorporate STEMSS in my lessons and how easy it is with a little more effort,” commented one participant at a previous AzGA STEMSS Institute. “Woo hoo! Best summer professional development ever!” said another.
