Biography

Ara Jeong is a geomorphologist  who solves problems related to the Earth surface. Ara's early career focused on using geochemical tools to understand Late Quaternary deglacial history across the Larsen B embayment (LBE) in Antarctica. Now her greatest passion  rests in understanding and quantifying human impacts using geochemical tools on urban geomorphology and ecology and helping local policy makers for better policy. The geochemical tools she uses often include cosmogenic nuclide systems. Cosmogenic nuclides are not a single tool, although some consider it just a surface exposure dating methods. Rather, they are a novel suite of methods for quantification of surface erosion rates, providing an indicator of the age surface materials, yielding estimates for the timing of burial of sediments, and other creative approaches.

She received her B.A. in geography and B.Sc. in earth and environmental sciences with great honors from Korea University. She has graduate degree (MA) in geography from Korea University, South Korea.
